Scarlet hollow traits7/9/2023 You're supposed to be stuck between a rock and a hard place, and the state of the game world is supposed to decay over time as you're continually forced to make trade-offs and sacrifices. It's also worth bearing in mind that you aren't supposed to succeed at major decisions in Scarlet Hollow. whether or not Tabitha intervenes in the Episode 3 decision is a very complex calculation that looks at every aspect of her relationship with you as well as a half dozen or so previous choices in the game. And that's not to say there aren't (or won't also be) ways that previous choices and relationships influence how those decisions (and other dilemmas that don't involve traits) play out. The alternative you're suggesting would be very difficult to balance, and when we've seen that approach in other games, it generally leads to a lot of metagaming as players spend more time charting out the "optimal" path for every single conversation. Every trait is going to offer exactly one "out" over the course of the game, which means there will be five situations you *won't* have an out for, giving an opportunity to let how you built your character significantly influence your playthrough. This is actually a very intentional design decision on our part. Traits should still impact the story and help you flesh out your character and how others react to them but no single trait should ever dominate how successful you are in the way that strength/book smarts do in chapters 1/3 respectively.Īlthough, at least to me, chapter 3 did do a better job with this even if it still fell into the same trap with book smarts. Outcomes for major events should come down to decisions you've made, actions you've taken and which relationships you've decided to cultivated over the course of a chapter instead of an arbitrary choice you made a dozen hours ago.
